Workshops
As a Freelance Community Musician I offer a wide range of workshops for schools and community groups. Whether you're a school teacher or youth group leader looking for some hands-on musical experience for your class or group, or an existing musical ensemble wanting to try something a bit different and extend your skills and experience I probably have something for you. A musical session can also make a rewarding alternative to team building exercises and paintballing for business groups. Each workshop is tailored to the group in question, their budget and time restraints, but here are a few examples of the kinds of thing we could do:
- Pre-school and early years singing
For children aged 0-7. Songs, singing games and maybe the odd instrumental number. Ideal for pre-school clubs, nurseries and First Schools.
- Folk
Instrumentalists get a chance to try out some folk songs and dance tunes. Great for mixed groups of players on any instrument and of any ability.
- Contemporary
Ever since the 50's composers have been coming up with some weird and wacky ways to write a piece of music. Try some of them from the inside. No musical experience necessary.
- World Music
Hands-on workshops on African drumming, samba, steel pans, Indian Classical music for voices or instruments and gamelan. Brighten up your day with a taste of some exotic music from warmer climes.
- Early Music
A look at the more robust side of Medieval and Renaissance instrumental music and songs. Demonstrations on reproductions of original instruments in period costume also available. See my Renaissance duo, Wyldes Noyse, for further details.
Take the Folia Challenge - La Folia is a tune that has been used by many people down the ages. Here's your chance to make your own version!
- Composition
Get those creative juices flowing and explore your musical potential. Ideal for schools and existing ensembles.
