Distribution : Throughout the Western Pacific and Australia. Found in tropical and temperate waters in rocky shallows and coral beds. It is active at night and spends a lot of the daytime resting on the bottom or under rock ledges. |
| Danger to man : | Considered dangerous, especially if disturbed. Most attacks happen when divers have touched them or stepped on them due to being camouflaged, although some unprovoked attacks have occurred. |
| Economic Importance : | Their multi-patterned skin is sometimes used for leather goods. |
