WELCOME TO THE WORLD OF SHARKS

This site is designed to give an insight into the myth and reality that surrounds sharks. It will also try to dispel the theory that all sharks are man eating demons of the open sea, constantly hungry and always on the look out for their next hapless victim.

For a great many people, myself included, we were first introduced to sharks through the film of Peter Benchley's book - JAWS. Although this film produced an almost surreal climate of fear, leading to hundreds of thousands of shark deaths at the hands of 'sport' fisherman and trophy hunters etc., it also brought forward some well respected zoologists, marine biologists and wildlife photographers as champions of the shark. Due to many years research and teaching by these people, the public attitude is slowly changing, where fear has been replaced with respect, ignorance with understanding and a desire to eradicate with one of preservation.

All the information contained within these pages has been gathered from a vast array of books, journals and documentaries etc., and whilst I believe all the information is correct, our lack of knowledge of some of the 380 or so species of sharks means that some people may dispute certain facts, but if anyone considers anything grossly inaccurate then please email me at info@sharkworld.co.uk
