The island of Papua New Guinea suffers the worst, with almost 70 attacks officially recorded. Japan and the Philippines are next with 19 and 20 attacks respectively. What these numbers obviously do not take into account, is the amount of people who have lost their lives to sharks after maritime disasters, especially during the second world war, when many passenger ships were sunk at the hands of the Japanese and German U-boats and submarines. |
