Western researchers and the fact that in Africa, sharks and shark attacks do not tend to invoke the same media interest as in Europe, North America and Australia, these figures are not only unsurprising, but must also be treated with a view to being greatly under-estimated. As the tourist trade starts to pick up in regions other then the Mediterranean and South Africa, it can only be assumed that the reported incidences of shark attack will increase as more people come into contact with sharks. |
