Drive
to Kinabalu Park HQ. Its worth walking some of the trails
from the HQ and going to the tour of the botanical
gardens held every day.
Day 4
We
begin ascent of the mountain. Generally a steady ascent
mostly by man made steps with lots of rest stops on the
way.
Finish
the climb for the day at Laban Rata Rest house (3300m)
where hot food, showers and sleeping accommodation is
available.
Our
group averaged 4-6 hours to complete the days climb.
Day 5
Get
up at 2 in the morning to reach the summit for Sunrise.
You'll meet lots of other people on the stairs and rope
pulls to the top.
If
you class yourself in good condition I recommend leaving
a bit later. We sat for over an hour at the summit
waiting for sunrise and it was very, very cold !
Low's Peak is the
Summit at 4101m but there are several other peaks at the
top as well.
South
Peak can also be climbed although its a bit more
difficult than Low's Peak.
The
descent is quick and easy with some spectacular views -
Use the easier descent to look out
for Pitcher plants on the way down.
