Sets a waypoint to a unit so it goes on a set course. You do this by holding down Q and move the arrow to the spots you wish that unit to go. You can't however order it to attack at the end of its set course that is another order on its own. (Very handy!!!)

THE BASICS

 

Red Alert is a computer game, but you have to treat it as if its war between you and the computer or a friend. You have to bare in mind that everytime you play Red Alert no game is going to be the same. For example if you play in multiplayer with someone each game is going to be different,. not like the computer who is a AI player. With the missions you might win oneday at that mission and loose it the next day. The computer is useless in Skirmish Mode we all know that. But you can change the way the computer/game plays by editing the rules.ini file (SEE RA FILES), to download some good ones.

 

Some tips to bare in mind

 

If you following these 6 steps you will be on your way to becoming a good Red Alert player.

 

CONTROLLING YOUR ARMY

Red Alert is a game which is war and you have to think to get the best out of your army. Red Alert is different in multiplayer and maybe in some ways better as like I said before every game is different. You might use one tactic against one player and win. Do the same with someone else and loose , I know what's this is like.

 

GROUPING UNITS

When the action is getting abit busy and you have allot of units such as tanks,infantry under your control it might be a good idea to group some units together and send them in to attack or defend your base. If you group up some units it is far easier to give orders to a group of tanks or infantry then if they were on there own. Because in a game of Red Alert you must act fast and be able to think fast to. It is not a good idea to have loads of groups of units as it can get a bit busy and you might loose track of whats going on.

 

BUILDING YOUR ARMY

In real life you would go to war with a fixed amount of units. But with Red Alert you can build as much as you like and send it in only if the money is there though. (WIN LOTTERY) sorry you can't in Red Alert. Anyway the most common tactic is build up a good sized base and then attack but your enemy may not let you do that specially if playing in multiplayer. When starting out fresh just woken up etc. etc., you must have patience and time to build up a good army. As you will find you will be busy building up your base and army then you might find yourself under attack. So go out looking for Ore fields so build a ORE REFINERY (SEE UNITS) . You need a strong force of tanks with a mixture of infantry like Rocket Soldiers for example,(SEE UNITS). So you must defend your base at all costs while building up your army and base. Build more then one structure if you can as it saves on building times.

 

GAME STRATEGIES

When going into battle you always and should have a plan and a good means of a strategy to work with. Everyone has different strategies and game plans part from the computer in Skirmish Mode.

 

GOING FOR THE ENEMIES MEANS OF MONEY/PRODUCTION

A good strategy but not to use too much is to go for your enemies Ore Trucks and guard the Ore Fields and let your Ore Trucks use it instead. This will make life harder for your enemy as it is only means of making money to build his army. I find 6 to 8 migs is good for getting ore trucks or if you are playing the ALLIES 8 to 10 Helicopters are good. But don't do this too much as your enemy will get to know this and find other way's round it. Plus if you do this same strategy everytime you play people get to know your game plan so change it. If it does not work there is not much point in doing it.

 

A PLAN OF ATTACK

Before attacking you must have a plan before you go ahead with an attack. Once your base is in production and growing , you should start thinking about looking for the enemies base. All strategies take effect once you have found the enemies location. First thing you should do is find the best way to the base , over bridges,river fords and of any roads to it. As you can place some tanks around these areas to stop the enemy from coming to look for you. look for weak spots in the enemies base and their defensive layout and plan your way of attack from the look of the situation. Ok now you have found the enemies base and location so now you should start thinking about defending your base were is the most like place/s is he or she going to attack first to try and get in. Because you attack first does not mean you are going to win remember that.

 

ATTACK BY AIR

Now this is a good strategy by air as you can fly over land and water to your target in no time at all. The Soviets have MIGS,YAKS,PARATROOPS,PARABOMBS and those ATTACK HELICOPTERS. (SEE UNITS). Then the ALLIES only have the APACHE ATTACK HELICOPTER (SEE UNITS). So the SOVIETS have the power in the air. You can group a set of migs (SEE ABOVE CHART) so you don't have to locate every airfield you have (SEE SOVIET STRUCTURES)which is handy for quick air attacks. The Apache Helicopter is weak and not so good. The ALLIES are best by SEA (SEE BELOW).

 

ATTACK BY SEA

The ALLIES are better on the sea side of things then by air like the SOVIETS. The ALIIES have GUNBOATS,DESTROYERS and CRUISERS. With the SOVIETS have the SUB'S . Which are a pain for the ALLIES but they can cope. The Cruisers in a group can take out a base in no time so if you can get an enemies base by water and you are playing the ALLIES, use your cruisers. The Soviets Submarine can only attack surface ships so a group of subs could take out a fleet of ships. The Subs can also knock out your Naval Yards as well so defend your Naval Yards. (SEE ALLIED STRUCTURES)

 

 

I could give you more ideas but I want you to work out the rest yourself, please bare in mind this was only a brief tips/ideas page.
