Listening:  Leonard Cohen - Ten New Songs

Christ the time's fair whizzing away. Another six weeks and I'll be homeless! Time to start looking for somewhere to hang my hat I think.

The last few weeks have been interesting. Well, to me, anyway. Firstly, I was offered a contract. The rate was about 60% of the amount I was on last year, but that's the market for you.  It would provide me with a decent income again .... it would also mean surrendering all the customers and goodwill I've built up over the last few months.

Quite a quandary. I only have one chance to make a go of this - if I go back to software design for a few months then I'll lose ground that I'll never get back (nor deserve to). In many ways I'm a very poor business man - I've too much of a conscience. All too often I end up repairing other people's dodgy work .... and then not charging enough.

I've met some interesting people. I visited a Zambian family who'd bought a PC from a pawnbrokers - or the modern day equivalent, called Kash Konvertors or something equally hideous - only to find they'd been sold a complete pup. This thing still had the previous owner's porn on it.  All sorted now, but I didn't charge what I should have.

So, I offered (?!?) to do the contract part time. I figured that I could do maybe three days a week and still keep The PC Guys running.

No deal.

I've turned it down.

Amy fell off her pony at the weekend. Anne, the teacher, cleaned her up and put her straight back on the pony. She split her lip and grazed her chin and her nose. Oh, and she's got a shiner too.

As Jaeme already knows, if I can scrape body, soul and cash together then I'm hoping for a trip to the States in the Autumn. Anyone fancy meeting up?
