My Arboreal Page Three.....
The ButleyTree

Taken in 1988, photo courtesy of Eric Rogers

Primrose Green, Norfolk

Probably the most photographed tree in Norfolk. Taken this year.

Whittingham, near Norwich

This one you can't go and see. It was diagnosed as unsafe by the County Council and felled in 1974. I include it because it's surroundings are so typical. Photo by E.A.Ellis.

Church chest made from Black Poplar

The native Black Poplar is an absolute knockout.

It's one of the most stunning trees you're ever likely to see. My own near-obsession with it began when I walked to the tree near Butley, Suffolk,  (see left). It's a real coversation-stopper. It's huge, it's old - and it's absolutely beautiful.

It's a real blow in the ribs to think that something that gave me such a buzz might not be doing the same for my children in   twenty or thirty years time.

I've gathered a few pictures together to give you a taste of their visual magic. I'll be adding more as I find photos that capture the real spirit of the tree..

But I would strongly recommend that you hunt out one in person, as it were.
Take a walk and take a good look. It will be worth it.....
