Games Workshop is in the throes of 'updating' its classic Warhammer Fantasy Battle game, unarguably its best and most enduring game. The signal for the revamp was, as is usual with GW, the announcement that there will be a sale of WHFB figures and army books. We can only hope that they do not attempt too many radical changes in a game that has already been simplified (in our humble opinion) far too much already.

The brilliant strategy and space combat game Star Fleet Battles has now been 're-released'. Probably the most 'realistic' space combat game there is, SFB is set in the Star Trek universe and features all of the major races from the television and film series and a few more besides. Originally made by Amarillo Design Bureau (ADB) and distributed by Task Force Games, it became difficult to get hold of three or four years ago (especially here in the UK). Last year ADB purchased all of the rights to the SFB catalogue and have continued on the long-overdue course of reissuing modules and even ship models. The excellent 'Captains Log' magazine / manual is also being continued - so good news all around.

The Oblivion design team have announced the next dates in their on-going LARP campaign. The continuing story of the mystery at Filanstadt is on February 9th 2001 until 11th February 2001. Mark Hammacott informed OLGC that there were at least 8 city states taking part in this event and that all involved could expect a harrowing time in the tunnels of the city of terror.

Wizards of the Coast have now published the re-vamped and re-written rulebooks for Dungeons and Dragons. The Players Handbook, Dungeon Master's Guide and Monster Manual are all now available.
Profusely illustrated throughout, the rules have been clarified and changed. There is no more THAC0, instead there is Melee roll based on Strength and various other modifiers. Armour now starts at 10 and gets higher as it gets better, not lower. The club are just starting a new campaign with the new rules, we'll let you know how we get on.
