What
games are played at the club?
The members of the Outer Limits Games Club have quite eclectic tastes
when it comes to the games they play. The majority of the games are played
on battleboards that are contoured and include buildings and scenery,
although some are played on hex sheets. The actual types of games can
be broken into two broad categories.
The first comprises those games that most people would
recognize as being of a 'science-fiction' derivative.' These games generally
take place in some future time and have an ethos based on scientific or
pseudo-scientific principles in terms of weapons, vehicles and armour.
The second category are those which can be termed 'fantasy'
and involve a background that is of a style and technology reminiscent
of perhaps medieval Europe. Again the majority of these games involve
model armies, scenery and battleboards but also includes games that are
played using paper and pen (such as Advanced Dungeons and Dragons) or
even boards and counters.
In most of these games, where it is feasible, the members
play in a campaign. We find that the campaign format gives added interest
and impetus for members to be constantly looking at strategies and battle
plans for their armies. A campaign also has the added benefit of further
players being able to join in without being penalised, by using 'underdog'
rules.
Have a look at the two sections and the games they
contain. |
