The Scottish Islands are renowned for their wonderful
stretches of sandy beaches but there are two locations that,
for me, have their own special beauty and stand out from the
others.
The Isle of Eigg has a character all of it's own.
In spring there are beautiful woodlands with a carpet of garlic
and bluebells. On the west side there are the white sandy beaches
of Laig Bay and Singing Sands with the outstanding panorama of
the island of Rum in the background. Between the two beaches
is an amazing area of sandstone rock carved into strange shapes.
It is a colourful moonscape full of abstract shapes.
Take a journey from Tarbert on the east coast of Harris,
over the mountains that resemble a grey and barren moonscape
and suddenly there opens up a colourful vista of sea and sand
that typifies the west coast. It is a photographer's paradise.
The light and the colours change rapidly. The colours of the
sand and sea change from the pastel shades of a hazy day to the
brilliant vibrant colours that are found in bright sunshine.
With every tide there are more changes and it seems as though
a new landscape is created |
