To finish each
game you must acquire one or more precious artefacts, as mentioned in the
pre-game video story, then usually Escape. You do this by uncovering hidden
areas with special items or actions, an discovering secrets, by killing
opponents an overcoming obstacles, while obtaining supplies an objects along the
way, to aid your journey.
The entire game
disk is made up of usually 4 sections. Each is divided into 2-5 subsections,
named 'levels'. A movie-like talk
scene separates each 'level'. Each new section starts you off with different
supplies.
As a game
locale can be
set at dusk or nightfall, or within an under-lit area, it makes the picture too dim,
so use
brightness control, at usually at far right, an nearest green light, under
screen-frame. If picture still too dim use ‘contrast’ control [nearby
brightness].
To easily view info files while playing, Alt+Esc switches you temporarily to the Windows desktop, an when you’re back at ‘windows’ you can access any other help files as if normal. To get back to game, click the ‘game’ box along the lower bar of the screen. If you’re reloading the game after being in a in jam, read any help-info beforehand to restart in a better way, as so avoid yo-yoing back'n'forth.
If you want to repeat a task better, an be in better shape as a result, or save something you’ve wasted, or practice something, or relive a moment, by saving a game to another list entry, eg 8th from list top instead of 7th, you can re-do recent things a better way, by reloading an earlier game-save, but without losing where you’ve currently spent time getting to. Or you could do this as last resort when you’ve exhausted all supplies. Saved games retain what you've acquired thus far.
LimitationsThe
mouse doesn't work with most TR games. The
'Pause’ key at keyboard top right doesn't pause game. You cant adjust the skill
level as its set at a normal level, an making it too easy anyway ruins the
suspense an challenge.
During near death, quickly pressing
F6 reduces dieing wait time. Also, before soon about to die, quickly pressing
‘F6’ will prevent game typically ending. Esc or ‘P’ key pause game, an ‘P’
also leads to ‘options’ an exiting. Alt+F4 can quit game quickly. Use can boost health during a
fight via ‘Esc’.
A joystick can be used, although the keyboard allows greater instant control in hostile situations. Best key configuration is: Z & X to go sideways, Ctrl= fire, Alt= advance, space= reverse, arrows= position & movement. You can scroll through gained items when found.
When there is no exit, an nothing left outstanding to do,
you will need to make an exit. Signs for where, are damaged panels, grills, an
grating. These can be pushed open, shot out, or levered off. The latter is done
with a crowbar, but when you don’t have one, you can find one, or make one,
by looking for something similar, that appears accessible as is unfastened
properly, an so can be pulled away to use as leverage.
If not sure
what’s at a distant place, use binoculars with / \ as zoom. But its usually
better to jump to the place, if possible. To look all round you, hold
right-arrow down continually. Press Ctrl only once to cause an action. Climb up
an jump where you can to explore, an if one method is too difficult try another,
as sometimes there are 2 methods towards achieving a goal. Flares brighten dark
areas. Anything unique is usually meaningful. For every unique action you do to
something, like pulling a lever, it always invokes an important change elsewhere
in the local area, therefore you must look or test for new additions to the
locale after achieving something. Dark-gray double-doors can be pushed open
after pressing Ctrl opposite them. When you cannot find any other way to
progress from where you are, then you either must look for an obscure way out
you’ve overlooked, or stop something that still remains in action. Not all
special tricks work in all situations. Explore all areas in case they conceal
something important that you cant see when looking from a distance.
To get maximum
supplies look in all
places before exiting area, so as to get health an amour bonuses.
Mystery music
accompanying a film-like scene, but with no talk, always focuses on an object
that is significant. Hearing eerie music means you’ve reached a key stage,
dramatic music means trouble is ahead. A video accompanies the latter if its
dangerous or complex. Military music means an armed person is ahead. Victorious
music means you ended a key stage.
Never save game until you’re safe. Nor ‘save’ when you see the blue air-supply bar. If you drop from too greater height, health is lost, or she/Lara dies. Whenever this occurs the health bar briefly appears as an update. To reduce either, drop from a lower height by jumping off backwards while clinging, then release grab. If you walk or sidestep thru a new entrance it sometimes doesn’t alarm local enemies.
If you’ve run too short on health, either find some medipak nearby quickly, or reload a saved game when you had better health. However the saved game must be at stage earlier to your current one. Don’t use medi-packs until necessary as you may run out when you need them later. Only use health packs when the health bar flashes red. When near death, large ones = full restore, smalls = half restore, so think before choosing.
This holds your supplies, booty, an tools. These are found on ledges an in obscure areas. Half are on shelves or in cabinets. Ctrl picks them up, eg when you see tall shelving, cabinets, or chest boxes, stand opposite an press 'Ctrl' to take some things from it, for later help. You don’t usually have to be on top of items to pick them up, just beside them. Though for vertical things you need to be lined up centrally an facing closely. Current inventory status is shown via ‘Esc’ key, from which you can also access any that are useable at the time. ‘Combine’ means they’re meant to be used along with something else. When enemies are killed they sometimes leave their supplies where they fell. In difficult places amo is not limitless, unlike the pistols.
Though rare,
when you see wide black shelving, you can push this backwards with Ctrl+up arrow, to
obtain extra supplies or roses. A tucked away wall-side with a small handle is a
secret entrance. Use Ctrl+up-arrow to push this backwards. Some obscure dead
ends contain gold roses, as well as on top surfaces. If not sure what’s in a
place then go there an see for sure. Jumping with 'view pressed' shows higher places. Gold
roses are bonus secrets but aren’t essential. Discovering secret areas an
achieving hard tasks reveal the essential objects to collect an use. Secrets can
be inside wooden crates which can be prized open.
Her
twin guns are for
general use. Revolver an shotgun kill quicker, with latter working best for
larger opponents, as uses cartridges. Uzi is a sub-machine gun that fires
bullets faster an is good for killing multiple targets. As machine guns fire
bullets quickly don’t waste them missing targets when a single shot suffices.
New weapons are either left on ground or in cabinets. Hidden amo can be on top
of places, and can run out so be frugal. Killing large enemies is quickest done
by repeatedly shooting it with a large weapon.
Laser-sighted
revolver is for precision shooting only. \ & / will magnify the laser sight
view, its red spot is where its bullets will hit. Guns must be pointed at target
if you’re to hit it directly. But moving targets make guns aim automatically
when they come into range. Duck to shoot at lower objects. For precise shooting,
sidestep an rotate near a wall till you can just briefly see target, then ‘red
sight’ its feature you want to hit, magnify to max, an shoot at the target
area when it moves into view.
