The guiding principle that has shaped the development of this site is the same principle that guides the band itself. The Regulars are all about substance over style - as you'll know if you've ever seen us. It would doubtless get us a lot more short-term attention if we all wore corresponding shiny shirts and co-ordinated our sideburns, and all that stuff, instead of troubling ourselves to write decent tunes. But that isn't why The Regulars exist. Same thing with the website, then. I could spend months learning how to do flashy Javascript routines and Shockwave animations and all the rest of it, and it might make the site look very attractive at first glance. But such an approach would be at the expense of content - I do have to be in the band and earn a living as well - and this would result not only in a crap website but also in one that would be untrue to the ethics of the band. |

Inclusive design Besides which, my computer is a lethargic old 120 with 8 meg of RAM and a 14K modem. So I appreciate the importance of inclusive web design - design that doesn't slam the door on you just because you can't afford 1500 quid for a spanking new Pentium 4. This, too, has informed the construction of this site. None of which is to say that we shouldn't still try and make the thing look nice, of course. And that's what I've tried to do with the February 2000 redesign. The orange and red colour scheme is inspired by the decor in my new bedroom, which is lovely and warm and cosy. I hope you like it. Web designers seem to think it's very important to tell you which resolution their site looks best with, and so, not wishing to dishonour this noble tradition, I must impart that this site looks best on 800 by 600 screens. Not that I expect you to faff about changing your settings just for my poxy website, but there you have it. Oh, and it does look better on Netscape (4.x) than Internet Explorer as well, as all the best sites do. Apparently. |

Cheers mate Editorially, this is all my own work - me being Pete, The Regulars' singist and tambouriner - so anything here ought not to be taken as representative of the views of the band as a whole. I suppose. Thanks are due to Dan Umney, Alan Farmer, Si Wilson and Al Stewart for various photographic, scanning and design favours and advice, and also to Rob Sedgwick, webmaster of The Electronic Fishcake, for having maintained the old grimsby.org URL. This site is hosted by Eidosnet - easily the best free ISP I've come across. The hit counter is supplied by Site Meter, along with lots of groovy tracking stats. Our lovely domain name is registered via Simply Names. Finally, then, I conceitedly reproduce here some of the feedback we've received about this website. If you have any comments of your own or further questions about this site, then please do mail us.
