Regulars net Butterflies slot
28 Feb 2000

The pangs of disappointment that savaged The Regulars following the latest delay in recording their debut single have been eased a little by the confirmation of a really rather exciting support slot.

As part of their UK tour, majestic US indie outfit The Butterflies of Love are headlining the Jug of Ale on Wednesday 19 April, and the Regs will be opening - thanks once again to the tireless efforts of Bearos Records' Alan Farmer.

The Butterflies' stuff is released in the UK by groovy Leicestershire label Fortuna Pop! Last year's stunning album How to Know The Butterflies of Love received a decent write-up in the NME, and has just earned a belated thumbs-up from Mojo, which claims the group are 'touted as the best new band in America'.

In describing the Butterflies' sound, groups such as the Go-Betweens, the Velvet Underground and Galaxie 500 tend to be cited; and this is not too far wide of the mark. Their obscurely glimmering sound takes in a little gloom and murk but retains an appealing humour and melodicism throughout.

Another Fortuna Pop! act, The Chemistry Experiment, are appearing with the Butterflies at four dates on this tour - the Jug of Ale appointment being one. Their second EP Be My Postman is released shortly.

The high-profile support slot is followed ten days later by a Bearos night at the same gig, at which The Regulars will be playing a longer set alongside Unisex (ex-Telescopes) and Los Planetos Del Agua. More details will follow when available.

Before all these thrills and spills, however, another Flapper & Firkin date has been confirmed.

The Regulars will be appearing at the city centre venue on Saturday 11 Match, between The Starries and God's Personal Robots. The date offers an opportunity to debut another new song - Try - and the Regs should take the stage at about 9:30.
