Busy,
busy world The Regulars attained almost unprecedented levels of activity this weekend, with a gig on Friday night and an interview on Saturday. This gruelling schedule arose as Alan Farmer of Bearos Records returned from a holiday and contacted the band to arrange an interview to publish in the Bearos newsletter and on the website. Bearos Records released The Regulars' debut single Lie down and fight earlier this month, and Saturday's interview follows the recent successful launch gig in marking this awesome milestone in pop history. The interview - conducted in the bizarre mock-Roman environs of Birmingham's Bacchus Bar - covered such issues as the Brum scene, the wild fluctuation of audience figures at Regulars gigs, and the joys, delights and property investment opportunities of the band's spiritual home of Bearwood. Alan's other interviewees have included Bearos heroes The Starries and Jameson, and the various experimental Brum bands covered in his seminal book We Brought Our Friends. These can all be found on the Bearos website. The Regulars' appearance for an interview at the early hour of 1pm was all the more impressive given their exertions of the previous evening, when their first ever appearance at Birmingham's Custard Factory venue saw them deliver an exhausting half-hour set of guitar pop. Supporting Mo-ho-bish-o-pi - the music weeklies' new flavour of the month - the Regs were restricted to a five-minute soundcheck and an 8:30 start, but turned in a confident performance, with welcome returns for They built over the traino and Once you get past Habrough bringing the set to a compelling climax. Next month - on 4 August, to be precise - The Regulars make a long-overdue return to the Flapper & Firkin, on a bill with Big Circus and the delightful Ogs Bunkadoo Band. Go and look at our gigs page for more details. |
