Ban the man? In an immediate signal of their intention to get their lazy arses in gear for once about this whole bassist situation, The Regulars have turned to their loyal friend and supporter Mr Richard Banner. The Big Lebanski - as he isn't really known to anyone much, though it would be a good nickname - is to sit down with departing bass-man Stu Fletcher, who bowed out at the recent Good Friday gig, and learn some Regulars basslines. He and the band will try each other out for size and comfort, and if everything clicks then the bass vacancy will have been filled with a pleasing minimum of effort. It is felt that the boy Banner - who metamorphoses of a Saturday afternoon from indie kid into hard-tackling centre-half - would prove just the right kind of big personality to fill Stu's capacious boots. A further advantage is that, having attended the vast majority of Regulars gigs since the band formed in 1996, Rich already knows the songs he will be playing should his trial lead to a permanent deal. "He's got everything going for him, apart from not being a girl," said Pete of his potential new bandmate. Ban declared himself excited by the prospect of Regularhood, adding: "I feel like the stalker who's been invited into someone's house." Final decisions will probably be made in May, after the Regs and Mr Banner have rehearsed together. |
