Special
guests The Regulars' springtime gig schedule has been boosted by the announcement of two Birmingham dates with touring bands described by Pete as 'life-alteringly brilliant and wonderful'. The excitable vocalist was referring to sublime American indie band The Butterflies of Love and Edinburgh pop geniuses Ballboy. Moseley's Jug of Ale is to host the Butterflies of Love/Regs gig on Thursday 28 March, with the groovy Mark 700 completing the bill. Two and a bit weeks later, on Saturday 13 April, Ballboy and The Regulars are joined by local popsters 35 Seconds at the Flapper & Firkin. The Butterflies of Love gig recalls a great night two years ago, when the same band visited the same venue, with The Regulars also in support. Hailed in 2000 as 'the best new band in America' on the strength of their magnificent debut LP How To Know The Butterflies Of Love, the Connecticut outfit has had a quiet time since, but popkids are already speaking in awed tones of preview copies of the new follow-up. Ballboy return to the Flapper after a dazzling midweek date at the same venue last summer. The interim period has seen the release of the band's stunning Club Anthems 2001 compilation album and their elevation as conquering heroes of last year's John Peel Festive 50. The group are down in England next month promoting their new EP All The Records On The Radio Are Shite. These two gigs represent a rare opportunity for Birmingham audiences to experience touring bands from the new pop underground, and The Regulars urge all the local fans to come out and listen and love. |
