My
Jug runneth over In the final run-up to the biggest Regulars gig of the year so far, its promoter has expressed concern over the potential attendance - but rather than fearing a 'two men and a dog' scenario, Arthur is worried about having to turn people away. This Wednesday's appearance at Birmingham's Jug of Ale, supporting The Chemistry Experiment and The Butterflies of Love, is flagged up under the venue's relaunched 'Quids In' night, which charges punters one pound to enter the pub and then allows free admission to the venue upstairs. Coupled with 99p vodkas and other tasty bevvy promotions, this has so far resulted in a more than healthy turnout for the weekly event. And with the Butterflies' magnificent How to Know album making new converts every day - not to mention a glowing response to their new single for Fortuna Pop! - Arthur believes the 19 April gig could see the venue bursting at the seams. The Regulars' setlist is yet to be finalised - in keeping with band tradition, they will probably still be writing it as they walk onstage - but the cup-final nature of the gig means that the band's 'squad rotation' approach to live sets will be replaced by a 'first-choice XI' principle. This is likely to spell a return for old favourites 35 hours and North star alongside newer material such as This is the sound and this summer's debut single for Bearos Records, Lie down and fight. The message for fans, then, is: get there early. In particular, those wishing to see The Regulars are advised that the band are first on stage, and their set will begin between 8:30 and 8:45. |
