it some Revs The Regulars return to their old haunt the Flapper & Firkin next Saturday for only the second time in 12 months with one of Birmingham's best new bands now confirmed on the bill. The Reverends or Thee Reverends, as they are variously monickered exploded onto the scene a year ago and have since been lauded as chaotic saviours of the city's lo-fi scene. Last month, while The Regulars played support to Tender Trap and Saloon at the Jug of Ale, The Reverends headed north for an appearance at the second GoJonnyGoGoGoGo indiepop/lo-fi event in Leeds. The band made an immediate name for themselves by the novel if somewhat messy means of using pineapples as plectrums. Also appearing on August 17 are Motorcyclestunts, another new band featuring ex-members of the promising but short-lived Cumulus. The new outfit is described, intriguingly, as "four awkward souls making music that bases itself in sheer humanity and spirals up over itself until it becomes far more than the sum of its parts". The Regulars' only previous appearance at the Flapper in 2002 was with Ballboy back in April; and after next weekend's gig the band will not be returning to the venue until very late this year following a recent decision to set time aside for working up some promising new material.
