Talking
'bout disinclination Less than 24 hours after the triumphant conclusion to the recording of The Regulars' debut single, the band gathered again to give an interview for the new online music zine Pop is Love. Saturday afternoon saw all five Regs - joined halfway through by Alan Farmer of Bearos Records, who is to release said single next month - gather in Birmingham identikit chain pub the Factotum & Firkin to field questions many and various from PiL editor Adam Narkiewicz. Ad - who dayjobs as assistant music editor with Clickmusic - displayed a terrier-like persistence in questioning, not to mention a talent for the arresting nonsequitur; and subjects ranged accordingly from fame and formation to drugs, work, sibling rivalry, the May Day protests, the nature of God, Pete's estimated body weight, and The Regulars' tendency to do nothing at all for most of the time. Chris, arguably the most quotable Regular, was not slow to pitch in with quips aplenty, and the feature - to be published in PiL's Zzap section for 'up and coming' bands - should make an entertaining read when it goes online. Consensus among the band afterwards was that the interview was their most enjoyable to date. It also emerged that Adam's mum is a big fan of The Regulars website - particularly Encyclopaedia Regular - so if you're reading this, Adam's mum, then a big hello! and thank you. Pop is Love was recently formed by the merger of established webzines Chemical Nation and The Glum, and by dint of attracting 60,000 hits per week the site is said to be now more popular than Melody Maker. |
