Two more performances, on two somewhat contrasting nights, have brought The Regulars' live schedule to a close until November - but not without incident.

The more recent of these was the Flapper & Firkin date supporting The Frank and Walters, on Thursday 28 September, where solid performances from both bands left a slightly sparse midweek audience happy.

Four days earlier, on a rainy Sunday afternoon, the Regs headlined the Bearos Records second birthday bash at Birmingham's Custard Factory - where Ogs Bunkadoo Band, Baxxter, Grover and J Foundation offered tough acts to follow.

Bearwood's 'intellectual slackers' - as one recent report describes them - rose to the challenge, however, delivering a varied set that swept between the intensity of These things obscure and the delicate touch of From a dark room - a tune played at the first ever Regs gig, and recently covered on this site in The Regulars Songbook.

High points included the fastest and wildest rendition yet of this year's Bearos single Lie down and fight and a much-improved airing of the new song Lincolnshire skies.

Testament to the passion of Pete's more than usually energetic performance is that he received a ticking-off afterwards for making the mike stand go wonky.

The singer, clearly embarrassed by his burst of uncharacteristic rock 'n' roll excess, explained later: "I had a few issues."

October is a gig-free month for The Regulars, whose next appearance is pencilled in for Friday 3 November at the Flapper. For more details keep an eye on the gigs section, or sell your soul to the Regulist.
