Offbeat surrender
05 Jun 2001

The new Regulars single This is the sound has received an endorsement of the nicest kind in the form of a preview play at the coolest indie night in all England.

Chris Stride, DJ at Sheffield University's fortnightly Offbeat event, played the demo version of the tune - which also features on the Offbeat website - last Friday.

Offbeat is admired by many - not least Pete, whose first visit inspired him to write the song in the first place - for championing real indie music and not playing rubbish like the Stereophonics.

This seal of approval is obviously meaningful, therefore, for The Regulars, who are now planning Sheffield gigs as we speak.

Meanwhile, the master tapes for This is the sound are expected to reach the pressing plant this month for issue in July on Bearos Records, following earlier congestion on the label's release schedule.

The recordings proper - of Sound and the b-side Lincolnshire skies - were made in April with producer Mat Webster.

And after promising rehearsals with the Regs' new bassist Mr Richard Banner, the band is looking to a single launch gig in the second half of July.
