Second fiddle
05 Feb 2001

The Regulars will this month signal their determination that the 20-month farce that delayed the release of last year's debut single will not be repeated for the next release - and that a rigged vote will have no bearing on the final choice.

The band will spend the final weekend of February in the studio demoing tracks for their second single - and a release in early summer would mean an interval of less than a year between the two releases.

Rough versions of three tunes - expected to be October we take it back, This is the sound and Try - will be recorded at Savage Sounds near Cleobury Mortimer, Shropshire on 24-25 February. The delightful rural studio was also responsible for the band's first three demo tapes, recorded in 1996, 1997 and 1998.

The follow-up to last year's Lie down and fight - now close to selling out its pressing of 400 - will then be chosen from the three songs, possibly for recording in March and release in April or May.

October we take it back and This is the sound topped a recent poll on this website in which Regs fans were invited to vote for their preference for the next single.

The two songs were running almost neck and neck on around 15 votes each until a dubious outbreak of multiple voting from a user based at the University of Birmingham tipped the balance firmly in favour of October.
