Aultbea is a small crofting/fishing community which lies scattered along the shores of Loch Ewe.
In the village of Aultbea there is a
well-stocked general store, an excellent butcher
, post office, two hotels, and a garage. There is
also a doctor's surgery. Several churches of different
denominations are within a short drive.
Aultbea is an ideal area for bird watching with Buzzards overhead and
oyster-catchers down on the shore, sea-eagles a short drive away
and a wonderful walk on the doorstep which takes you into the
heart of Highland tranquillity. Fine sandy beaches and quiet
rocky coves within easy reach.

Aultbea is a crofting community and sheep are a way of life
here, as in most of the Highlands. They rule the road -
particularly the middle bit - drive with care! Wild goats are on
the increase in this area so look out for them, particularly
around Gruinard, Dundonell and Corrieshalloch Gorge. Red and Roe
Deer roam in large herds and are seen much more frequently these
days than in previous years.
A fine sandy
beach at Mellon Udrigle and a superb walk over the headland.
Lovely beaches also at Gruinard Bay, Inverasdale and Gairloch.
Bird-life and sea-life, including otters, seals and sea-eagles
visit the beaches and coves along this wild and wonderful
Highland coastline.

A superb view down
the valley towards Ullapool taken from a vantage-point a short
distance before Corrieshalloch Gorge . Ullapool is a busy little
fishing town with a regular ferry service to Stornoway giving
access to the Hebrides. You could wander along the winding road
to the Summer Isles - always returning to Aultbea of course.
A short drive
from the village of Aultbea are the world-famous Inverewe Gardens, and a
heated indoor swimming pool. About half an hour away is a nine
hole golf course, leisure centre and an award-winning heritage
museum.
Also available is sea fishing, watersports and sea-life trips;
bicycles, boats, canoes, quad bikes, diving, etc. can be hired in
the area.
